United Way Celebrates 20th Annual Day of Caring and Kicks Off Campaign

If you are looking for purpose and inspiration in your life, United Way of Escambia County invites you to join community leaders on Friday, October 12, 2012. Leaders, volunteers and donors will celebrate the 20th Annual Day of Caring while kicking off this year’s Workplace Campaign. Be one of an anticipated 700 guests to join in the 7 a.m. celebratory breakfast at the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Stadium.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of United Way’s annual Day of Caring. In 2011, United Way mobilized more than 1,100 volunteers from local businesses and military commands who contributed 5,620 hours of service for 110 projects. These caring volunteers saved local non-profits and schools $120,000 in labor costs. They helped with lawn maintenance, painted homes for the elderly, read to children and facilitated canned food and supply drives.

Volunteer groups already signed up to serve include members of the Blue Angels Squadron, University of West Florida cheerleaders and Gulf Power, whose employees have already organized eight groups eager to help. Most groups will begin their projects at 8 a.m., after the Kick-Off Breakfast.

Those inspired through their service at area agencies and schools are encouraged to join United Way’s annual fundraising campaign. More than 10,000 caring community citizens engaged in last year’s successful campaign that raised support for over 140 agencies who received direct designations of $351,750 and 45 programs at 38 agencies that won grant awards for another $1.1 million in support. The campaign is an opportunity for local residents to support dozens of health and human service programs that positively serve our community in the areas of education, financial stability and health.
